Valley of Fire Nevada State Park, Las Vegas, NV & Joshua Tree National Park, Mojave Desert, CA; Feb 25 - Feb 28

Tom and Linda Kimbrell insisted that we visit Valley of Fire Nevada State Park.  Again, not to overstate, it was spectacular.

I know these pics pretty much look like all the others we took, but from our side of the lens, there was a huge difference.

The proof that these pics were special was that Vanessa had a tear in her headlight as we drove away.

Our next stop was Las Vegas, "Sin City," and we saw some sights that documented that nickname. Marie would not let me photograph any of that.

Elvis is alive and well.  Thank you.  Thank you very much!
Thanks to Matt Babineau and Genevieve Murdock, soon to be married and happily related to us, we were lucky enough to get a last minute reservation at Joshua Tree National Park in the Mojave Desert, CA for Saturday night where we met Lauri & Jeff Fletcher from Ontario, Canada.  They were great fun and hopefully we will meet up with them on Vancouver Island, Canada in April.
This is a Joshua Tree; not a tree at all, but a form of the Yucca Cactus which can grow to 40 feet tall, and they are everywhere.

A Cholla Cactus, up close and personal.  They can attack from this distance.  This one didn't!

We stayed at Jumbo Rocks Campground.  These are jumbo rocks.

More jumbo rocks!
On to The Springs at Borrego in the California Desert where we will spend two leisurely weeks before departing for San Diego and working our way north up the coast.

  1. So glad that the exchange worked out and we were able to experience Joshua Tree "together" (next best thing). Such a cool park. We knew you would connect with Lauri and Jeff! They are such kind people. I was able to catch up on the blog, what a wonderful adventure! Have fun relaxing in the springs. Here are some recs for San Diego! The cliffs at La Jolla have up close sites of hundreds of sea lions sunbathing. Charlotte and Sophie love watching these videos on my phone. In San Diego, we checked out Balboa Park, the Coranado hotel/ island, sunset cliffs for an unbelievable sunset, Puesto for the best tacos, Bob Hope museum and more. My uncle and cousin just opened a coffee shop called Hawthorne. Are you going to drive up to San Fran through big sur? Julia Pfeigfer state park is so beautiful. Sending you lots of love!
